Alisa Cozzens has been a member of the Reston Ward and Oakton Stake for 18 years. She is married to Greg Cozzens and they have four children and seven grandchildren.
Alisa spent her high school years and several additional working years living in South Africa, where her mother, the late Kathryn Hunt, lived for over 30 years. She has a degree in communications from BYU and has worked in public relations and journalism, the wholesale diamond business, and education. For the past seven years, Alisa has worked as a flight attendant and has held a variety of positions in the airline industry. Inspired by her mother's devotion to serving the villagers living on her farm in South Africa, Alisa began to look for ways that she and her young children could support these efforts. Her children collected schoolbooks and supplies, clothing, sports uniforms, and hygiene kits and raised the money to send these items to South Africa. As her children grew older, they began to travel and get involved in international service projects of their own. Alisa's sister, Chris Troger, also actively collected supplies for Africa and created opportunities to bring friends and family to the village to see firsthand the tremendous needs of the villagers there. In 2006, Chris, Alisa, and their children formalized their humanitarian efforts by creating a non-profit organization, Serve a Village. They enlisted the invaluable help of several of their friends in the Oakton Stake and, working together, their efforts have snowballed in to projects throughout the world. Today, Serve a Village is active in the local community through their Northern Virginia Diaper Bank, spearheaded by stake member Becky Probst. Internationally, Serve a Village supports a library, a clinic, and an eyeglass project in Kenya; a preschool in South Africa; and sends volunteers on service expeditions to Uganda, Kenya, and South Africa. Alisa is currently serving as a Director of Serve a Village. Serve a Village has 501 (c) (3) status and is a 100% volunteer organization. |
